Blogs: how powerful are they?

A teacher can create a blog for her students where information and notes are posted by both the students and teacher. The students will benefit from this since they will be able to pick up any notes that they have missed in class. Asking questions could also be easier for the students since they can ask the question without the teacher actually knowing who asked it. This is benefit for the child as he or she may be too shy to ask it in class or in front of their classmates. Also the students might come up with a question while they are doing their home work or studying and the blog will be an excellent way for them to communicate with the teacher or their friends to ask for help about their problem.  If they have a particular lesson only once a week and the student was confused about something which was said in that lesson, they will easily get a reply after a few hours if not minutes after their post. This would not be the case if the student waited for several days for the next lesson.

When the students are engaged in a blog, they are also reading a lot of new information which will allow them to learn even more and at the same time they will also be reading which may improve their vocabulary and maybe even their fluency in the language they are reading and writing in and therefore I think that there are practically no disadvantages of using a blog to expand the lessons and that in this way the students may learn a little something extra compared to the tradition lesson.

    I do agree with what you said. I also think that it gives them the possibility to reflect more on what others are writing, and this leads to more learning. Furthermore, they would be attaining a constructive digital footprint which is fundamental in this century! I think if a teacher uses similar on-line methodologies with her students and not just interacting with them in class, a very good teaching environment would be developed from which the students will surely benefit. What do you think?
